When Should You Step-in If Family Abuses Alcohol?
Watching a family member’s life spiral out of control because of a drug problem or an alcohol problem is a difficult and painful process. A loved one may want to step in, but a loved one may not know when to help. Even if he does want to step in, he can rest assured that such help will not be appreciated at first. Depriving an addict of his fix, whether is drugs or alcohol, is a dangerous thing to do . There is a reason there is often more than one person present during an intervention.Want more? The time to step in is when a person’s life starts to get out of control. Waiting until the person is facing eviction, been fired from several jobs, is int trouble with the law and has been hospitalized a few times is probably too late. Even if it is not too late for the individual, more damage was done by waiting than would have been done if a person had simply intervened when he knew there was a problem.
Stepping in when a family member is abusing alcohol is not an art form. It is something that is done out of concern. If there is a chance that the drinker will ruin his health if he is let go too long, it should be done sooner rather than later.
